Aviatrix Harriet Quimby, the first woman in the United States to obtain a pilot’s license (in 1911) and the first woman to fly across the English Channel (in 1912). Though she unfortunately died at the young age of 37 in an aviation accident, she has been a major influence on the role of women in aviation.
